Interesting. I think the hotel provided this service to ensure that guests do not bring wet umbrella into the lobby or rooms.
Umbrellas are cheap, and I've got a few free ones. But the pain is when it rains and I have no umbrella to use. Then I am stuck inside a building...
I guess they must have got a lot of complaint of lost umbrellas
